Order! Order!
Teaching tip
This is a good exercise for listening and discussion.
Devise some five-, six- or seven-word sentences. It’s best if the word order of the sentence cannot be changed.
Examples:
The small boy saw me. The brown dog was running. Life is a box of chocolates.
I am frightened of big spiders. I love eating fish and chips. There was a knock on the door.
The baby drank milk and fell asleep.
Write one word of each sentence on a slip of paper and give a slip of paper to each student. (But make sure to keep a note of each sentence.)
If you are in a classroom where students can move around, ask them to stand in the correct word order of each sentence. Otherwise they can call out their words and try to recreate the sentence.
